Con-Struct™ Prefabricated Bridge System uses proven materials and current design standards, combined with new fabrication and construction techniques, to reduce construction and maintenance cost, shorten construction time, increase quality and lengthen service life.
Cold bent steel tub girders have been independently researched and tested by both Michigan State University and West Virginia University. Con-Struct™ meets all AASHTO LRFD requirements and has been used and approved for both state D.O.T. and FHWA funded projects.
The Con-Struct™ system is a perfect Innovative Bridge System (IBS) for your Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil (GRS) foundation. The elements are lightweight and can be built with concrete footings integral with the superstructure.
The Con-Struct™ Prefabricated Bridge System can be delivered and installed at less cost than that of conventionally constructed steel or concrete beam bridges.
The Con-Struct™ superstructure can be erected and ready for traffic in a single day. Each unit is erected similar to that of precast concrete beams and designed for simple span dead load and vehicular live load. Con-Struct™ units are prefabricated with the final driving surface. Once Con-Struct™ is placed, individual units can be secured together by a mechanical lateral steel connection or Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) and opened to traffic.
The steel tub girder can be hot-dip galvanized to protect the steel from corrosion and provide over 75 years of maintenance free protection.
The concrete bridge deck is precompressed, further increasing the corrosion protection of the internal concrete reinforcement.
By precasting the concrete deck, field form, finish and curing is eliminated. The precast concrete deck is manufactured in a controlled casting environment, providing a better quality and more durable product for one of the most critical elements of the bridge.
The innovative fabrication process eliminates temperature and shrinkage cracks in the deck and provides superior protection of the underlying steel reinforcement.
